Mercedes-Benz is introducing a new E-Class in 2023 that sets new standards in efficiency and is designed to help transition from combustion engines to electric drive. The exterior design of the new E-Class is inspired by classic three-box saloons, while the interior features a range of high-tech features. The dashboard has a large glass surface that extends to the central display, and there is a light strip of Active Ambient Lighting that creates a generous feeling of space. The new E-Class is also spacious, with five millimetres more headroom for the driver and an increase in elbow width in the rear that is almost S-class level.

The new E-Class will be available in Europe from summer 2023, and half of all the models will be fourth-generation plug-in hybrids. This high proportion of plug-in hybrids is made possible through the use of a range of four and six-cylinder engines from the current modular Mercedes-Benz engine family FAME, which feature intelligent support from an integrated starter-generator (ISG). The models at market launch in Europe include the E 200, E 220 d, and E 220 d 4MATIC, all of which are mild hybrids.

Overall, the new E-Class represents a major step forward for Mercedes-Benz in terms of efficiency and digital innovation. The new model features classic proportions and special character lines in the exterior design, an immersive and intelligent entertainment experience, and a range of engine options that emphasize electrification and downsizing. The result is a mid-range luxury saloon that sets new standards for its class and helps pave the way for the transition to electric drive.
